The Communion of Saints

It's November 1st again, a date set aside by the Holy Catholic Church to mark the Feast of All Saints (The Church triumphant). This feast commemorates all the Church's Saints, known and unknown, canonised or not. In so doing, we honour the Holy spirit who made them great.

According to St Thomas Aquinas, the order of God's law requires that we should be brought to him through the Saints; his divine goodness pours forth his gifts through them (the intercession of the Saints). This however doesn't replace direct supplication to God in the name of Jesus, our mediator. 'The inferior shall obtain salvation through appealing to the Superior'.

The science of the Saints consists in knowing the love of God. St Alphonus opines that 'He who does not cherish in his heart a desire to achieve sanctity may be a Christian, but he is not a good Christian!' God does not demand the impossible. His precepts admonish us to do what we can and ask for what we cannot. He aids us so we are able to accomplish all.
God rewards every good desire even in this life (St Teresa of Avila). But if we act grudgingly towards God, how can we hope that he will be bountiful towards us? (St Alphonsus).

Let's strive to improve our lives by emulating the lifestyle of the Saints. We should do our best as Christians so that when our mortal lives are over, we shall be ushered into the 'Communion of Saints'. It is God's desire for us to inhabit his kingdom on tha last day.

It is also imperative to pray for our country Nigeria in this 'change' era. Recent events have been depressing. 'Sainthood' in Nigeria has been redefined to mean aligning with the ruling party or the President. Our leaders have ascribed the 'power of absolution' unto themselves. I pray that PMB and his 'cabinet of Saints' shall take Nigeria to the promised land. God, have mercy on Nigeria.

Our Lady, Queen of all Saints and Queen of Nigeria, pray for us.
St Joseph, guardian and protector of God's children, pray for us.

Happy New Month friends and Happy 'All Saints' day to all Catholics. Stay blessed.
