11 points from 33, 6 losses in 11 games, 15th position in the EPL table, out of the title race by October, 3 home loses in the EPL already. Add that to misfiring key players, a dressing room in disarray, a club in turmoil, an exasperated owner. This has been the worst start to an EPL title defence ever. Mourinho's teams have been known for solidity in defence. However, the present Chelsea setup is akin to a leaking basket and a strike force firing blanks.
How did this happen? The signs were there, albeit ignored. The team enjoyed an extended break basking in d euphoria of their domestic double last season robbing them of fitness. The loss to Arsenal in the Carling cup sounded alarm bells but Mou was characteristically undaunted. An opening game draw to Swansea was just the beginning. A suspension and subsequent injury to Thibaut Courtois only worsened the situation. Let me not fail to add that Hazaard has been MIA all season.
There seems to be a correlation between Eva's problems with Mou and Chelsea's crisis. The club has been out of sorts since the infamous saga erupted.
This could have been avoided. Mou has also opted to stick with under performing players and bench John Terry a lot. Fabregas, Ivanovic, Costa, Hazaard, et al have just failed to sparkle. Are the players missing Eva and conspiring against Mou? The latter is plausible but doubtful
Jurgen Klopp couldn't be bothered as Liverpool inflicted a painful defeat on Chelsea yesterday. For once, Mou had no answer to questions during the post match interview. We saw a deflated coach at wits end. He seems to be tired of blaming Wenger, the Refs, FA, players, the board, pitch, etc. The fans still love him though. The £30million payoff may be the only thing keeping Mou at Chelsea right now after 3 straight loses in a week.
If he is still in charge by midweek, the UCL game against Kyiv may bring some succour if results go Chelsea's way. A top 4 finish will be a miracle this season. I feel sorry for Mou but I hope he learns his lessons. Arrogance and disrespect for staff and fellow coaches must be backed by results. I wish I could read Wenger's mind on Mou's situation right now. Time will tell if the 'Special One' still wields the magic wand. That's if Abramovic doesn't fire him tomorrow. 'Mutual consent', calm down. LOL
