Ministers without portfolio a political blunder -Balarabe Musa

The former governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has described the decision of President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint some ministers without portfolio as political blunder that the country may regret.
Musa told Daily Independent that the president may be making a grievous political blunder which may generate further tension in the polity.

“I don’t think there is any wisdom in the practice because it may further aggravate political tensions in the country,” he said.
According to the former governor, some states which would have ministers without portfolios may felt cheated at the end of the day and may cause more frictions because the constitution provides for a minister for each state of the federation.
On the claim that the country would save cost if some ministers are appointed without portfolio, Musa described the claim as untrue because any minister appointed either with or without portfolio receive the same remunerations.
“I don’t believe that it is cheaper to have ministers without portfolio because they both receive the same remunerations.”
He further stated that the practice would concentrate more power on few people and make the work more cumbersome for the president to supervise.
“If the country is broke and cannot afford 36 ministers as we are made to understand, then there is no need to appoint 36 of them because the country is not going to save any kobo from the practice.”
Musa urged President Buhari to expedite action on how to address numerous challenges facing the country as promised during his electioneering campaign. It would be recalled that the leader of Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) had insisted severally during the last presidential campaigns that both PDP and APC have no solution to Nigeria’s problems.
