As we countdown to the General elections in Nigeria, it's pertinent to preach the message of peace. This may be the most keenly contested Presidential election yet. The significance of the outcome of this election cannot be over emphasised.
We are a diverse people with different political affiliations. While it's logical to disagree on political ideologies or support different candidates, the hate been propagated is senseless. It is becoming increasingly difficult to have an intelligent debate with supporters of different parties or candidates. The outcome of most arguments on social media is insults, accusations of hidden agenda or financial inducements.
It's disheartening to read some hate comments on blogs, facebook, twitter, etc. The fact that most comments are from young people, the leaders of tomorrow is sad. At this point in our history, the youths cannot afford to be agents of hate. It's our right to vote but we shouldn't be used to carry out acts of violence.
Say NO to political thuggery and post-election violence. The political gladiators can afford to flee Nigeria with their families if it gets too hot. Most youths cannot. We are the major losers in the end. While passionately exercising your franchise, it's VOTE not FIGHT, BALLOT not BULLET. God Bless Nigeria.
