Every passing day, we are inundated with tales of a 'hidden agenda' to islamize our beloved Nation. The fervour displayed by exponents of this idea is alarming. If these rumours were true, I'll keep asking 'Does this make sense' and 'Why now'? The so-called catalyst of this heinous plan has ruled Nigeria before. If Nigeria wasn't islamized then, why will anyone even attempt to do so at this stage?
We have made huge strides as a Nation since independence. I really can't fathom why a country as diverse as Nigeria should be faced with talks about islamization 'aided by a leader'. I sincerely hope that this is the handiwork of mischief makers and disgruntled elements in our nation. We have come this far and can't be taken decades backwards.
This country has survived a brutal civil war, several military coups, increasing unemployment rates, terrorism, unrestrained pilfering, etc. In over 50 years of independence, we've managed to stick together in spite of our differences. Since the advent of our hard fought democracy, the stability of our Nation hasn't been threatened this much.
The time has come for all Nigerians regardless of religious and ethnic affiliations to work towards the greater good. We must do away with ethno-religious dichotomy. The era of inciting statements should come to an end. The gains of 'March 28' should not be eroded on the altar of tribal sentiments. Those stoking the embers of war should have a rethink. Nigeria is God's project, we cannot afford to fail. Africa NEEDS us and the world is watching. WE ARE ONE.
