The third Day of June 2012, a date I'll never forget. It was a bright day filled with activities. Mass was over, lunch had been served and I sauntered off. I took a stroll on the streets of Abuja, Wuse to be precise. My attention was drawn to a news flash on blackberry messenger. There were rumours of a plane crash backed by graphic pictures. My first thoughts were Another crash? Not Again.
As expected, I called family members and friends and advised the 'regular flyers' to reduce the frequency. Little did I know that the sun had set already. Hundreds of lives had been lost to an avoidable air mishap. A sad reminder that once again, we've failed to learn from history. We've had Sosoliso, Bellview, ADC and a host of other aircrashes. Inspite of this, a known faulty plane conveying over 100 passengers was allowed to take off from Abuja.
The effects of this ill conceived action still linger on. Families are still in tears, entire lineages have been wiped out. You were GONE. A brilliant Engineer was cut down in his prime as a result of atrocious negligence and greed. Big sis kept crying and tears filled my eyes. I could only imagine the pain her husband felt at the loss of his big brother and the tears of his parents dealt such a cruel blow. If only tears could bring you back, we'd cry you a river.
It's been three years and life keeps going on. 'Dana' are back to business. Hope it's not Business as usual though. You are always in our hearts bro. I couldn't write yesterday because I tried not to remember. I believe you are shining bright in the bosoom of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Eternal Rest Grant unto them O Lord and let Perpetual Light Shine upon them.
