In response to the reports that the 2016 budget has been stolen from the National Assembly, the presidency has washed its hands off the document.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, says President Muhammadu Buhari has not withdrawn the budget from the National Assembly.
While the presidency admitted that only President Buhari has the power to withdraw the document, Garba Shehu maintains that to the best of his knowledge, nothing of such has happened.
Reacting on his Twitter page, Shehu said that the ‘once the budget is submitted, it ceases to be our property’.
Enquiries about the budget: Nobody except the President can withdraw the budget. As far as we know, he hasn’t done that.

The copies in their hundreds have been delivered to both chambers of the National Assembly.

By tradition, once the budget is submitted, it ceases to be our property. — Garba Shehu (@GarShehu) January 12, 2016
Enquiries as to where it is should be directed to the appropriate quarters. Best regards. — Garba Shehu (@GarShehu) January 12, 2016
