It's November 1st again, a date set aside by the Holy Catholic Church to mark the Feast of All Saints (The Church triumphant). This feast commemorates all the Church's Saints, known and unknown, canonised or not. In so doing, we honour the Holy spirit who made them great.
According to St Thomas Aquinas, the order of God's law requires that we should be brought to him through the Saints; his divine goodness pours forth his gifts through them (the intercession of the Saints). This however doesn't replace direct supplication to God in the name of Jesus, our mediator. 'The inferior shall obtain salvation through appealing to the Superior'.
The science of the Saints consists in knowing the love of God. St Alphonus opines that 'He who does not cherish in his heart a desire to achieve sanctity may be a Christian, but he is not a good Christian!' God does not demand the impossible. His precepts admonish us to do what we can and ask for what we cannot. He aids us so we are able to accomplish all.
