Adopt zoning in 2019 or fail again, Group tells PDP

As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gets set for its forthcoming National Convention to be preceded by congresses to elect new officers at state level, the Owerri League of Patriots (OLP), a socio-political group, has stated that the principle of zoning of elective offices from the governorship to the last party office should be adopted by the PDP in Imo State to avert another electoral mishap.

The group maintained that zoning of offices is the panacea needed to avoid internal wrangling, stressing that “the Party’s leadership should zone offices across board before the congresses to avoid any future intra-party squabbles that might tear the party apart.”
It urged PDP faithfuls in Imo State to emulate its national leadership’s zoning arrangement for peace and cohesion in the party.
In a seven-point resolution at the end of its meeting held in Owerri North, Imo State, the Owerri League of Patriots (OLP) observed that “mutual distrust and avoidable internal wrangling remain the bane of the PDP in Imo State and accounts for its poor performance in the 2011 and 2015 governorship elections in the state”, stating that in line with the principles of equity and fairness, Orlu and Okigwe geo-political zones should support Owerri zone’s aspiration for the 2019 governorship of Imo State.
