IS THIS THE 'CHANGE' ?

As we bask in the euphoria of 'change' and eagerly anticipate the start of a new Government on May 29, my mind is clouded with diverse thoughts. I stumbled on a seemingly pro PDP publication and have decided to share with you guys. It's a thought provoking piece. Read on.

Change was the campaign slogan used by APC during the just concluded 2015 general elections whereas PDP ,being the ruling party, used Transformation and Continuity as their own campaign slogan. Nigerians understood the APC slogan as the introduction of a different system of government for the betterment of the wellbeing of the citizenry. Yes,we need no prophet to tell us that APC will come in with their party manifesto hence bringing a change to the system of governance at the federal level.

THE SOLUTION TO FUEL SCARCITY

I found this interesting and enlightening article online. It's a must read especially for lucid minds. I'll like to get your thoughts on this. Happy reading.

For some time now, especially since the beginning of 2015, Premium Motor Spirit popularly known as petrol has been very scarce in Abuja and many other cities across the country. I live and work in Abuja and can count the number of times I have got fuel at the official rate of N87 per litre since the year began. Of course, for those who do not attach much value to time, they do not mind queuing for hours on end at the few filling stations that are selling at the official rate. For some of us, we have embraced buying at the black market even if we have to pay twice or thrice the official price.

ECHOES FROM THE PITCH 3

Barcelona close in on Liga triumph
Liverpool Fail to qualify for the UCL

Barcelona have been gifted the La Liga trophy after Real Madrid could only afford a 2-2 draw against Valencia. Barca's earlier 2-0 victory against Real Sociedad ensured that Barca are 4 points ahead of Madrid with two matches to go. Real Madrid's hope of redemption now lies in the UCL where they will be hoping to overturn a 2 -1 Deficit against Italian Champions Juventus. Winning the Champions League is now a must for Los Blancos. Failure will most likely result in the sack of Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti.

TREKKERS AT WORK

It's trekking season in Nigeria. It started as a response to a dare. A die-hard Buhari supporter allegedly trekked from Lagos to Abuja in 13 days. The huge reception he received has prompted others to join the bandwagon. We've heard stories of other trekkers from Yola and Borno respectively to Abuja. All ostensibly to congratulate our President-elect. Most of these claims are unverified.

NIGERIA'S ECONOMIC CRISIS - THE WAY FORWARD

It's no longer news that the dwindling oil prices and the economic realities on ground indicate that Nigerians are in for a rough ride in the coming months. The incoming administration will have to take difficult decisions to revive the economy. We are already at the point where some States can't pay salaries. Job cuts are mooted everywhere you turn.

This situation may be a blessing in disguise if well managed. First on the bill should be reducing the cost of Governance at all levels. The Executive and Legislature should take the lead. I still believe that plans should be made to reduce the size of the National Assembly in the near future. Funds have to
be freed up to service other viable sectors of the economy and reduce dependence on crude exports. The current administration have made huge leaps in
this regard. This should be improved upon.
